1-4-2025-Monday ACK Hands Over Construction Materials to Internally Displaced Persons in Marsabit
The journey to rebuilding life afresh has begun for 25 families among the more than 500 internally displaced families affected by ethnic conflicts in Marsabit County.
This comes after a group of 25 families, who were victims of the ethnic clashes, benefited from a donation of construction materials provided by the Anglican Church of Kenya, Diocese of Marsabit, through the Anglican Development Services Mt. Kenya East (ADSMKE).
The assistance includes iron sheets, timber, cement, nails, and labor costs for masons to help in building houses for the affected families.
While handing over the materials to the victims, the Bishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya, Diocese of Marsabit, Qampicha Daniel Wario, stated that the church has taken the initiative to help resettle the displaced families due to the difficult living conditions they have endured for nearly four years following the worst ethnic clashes ever witnessed in Marsabit town and its environs.
Bishop Qampicha emphasized that for the wounds of the victims to begin healing and for lasting peace to be realized, the displaced persons must return to their normal lives.
The beneficiary families are part of the 50 families that had previously received iron sheets but were unable to build houses due to financial constraints.
The church is also continuing its financial support of KES 11,250 per month for 100 internally displaced families in Marsabit.
One of the internally displaced persons, Bahati Gura, hails from Salesa Waqo.
The assistant chief of Jaldesa sub-location, Abdub Hussein, has praised the initiative and called for more efforts from various stakeholders to foster peace and reconciliation among the affected communities in Marsabit.
