Overview

The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Diocese of Marsabit is a dynamic and culturally diverse diocese located
in the northern region of Kenya, comprising Marsabit, Isiolo, and parts of Samburu Counties. Established as a mission area under the Archbishop of Kenya in 2008 and inaugurated as a fully-fledged diocese on July 24th, 2011, the Diocese has grown to become a beacon of faith and development in a challenging environment.</p>

With a strong focus on evangelism, education, social services, and community empowerment, the Diocese serves a large population that is both geographically spread out and culturally varied. Youth and children form a significant portion of the congregation, reflecting the Diocese’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of Christian leaders.

Our Mission

Mission Statement

The Diocese of Marsabit is committed to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ, fostering spiritual growth, and nurturing a vibrant Christian community across our diverse and expansive region. We strive to serve with compassion, integrity, and unity, addressing the spiritual, educational, and social needs of our members and the broader community. Through dedicated evangelism, community outreach, and the responsible stewardship of our resources, we aim to empower individuals and transform lives, guided by the teachings of Christ and the love of God.

Leadership Structure

The Diocese of Marsabit is structured to ensure effective governance and pastoral care across its vast and varied terrain. The leadership hierarchy is as follows:

Bishop

The spiritual leader and head of the Diocese. The current Bishop is the Rt. Rev. Daniel Qampicha Wario, who was consecrated on May 1st, 2016, succeeding the Rt. Rev. Robert D.M. Martin, the first Bishop of the Diocese.

Diocesan Synod

The decision-making body of the Diocese, comprising clergy and lay representatives from across the Diocese. The Synod meets regularly to discuss and decide on matters affecting the Diocese’s spiritual and administrative life.

Vicar General

The Vicar General assists the Bishop in overseeing the Diocese’s day-to-day operations, ensuring that all ministries and programs align with the Diocese’s mission and vision.

Archdeacons

There are three Archdeaconries within the Diocese of Marsabit, each led by an Archdeacon:

Marsabit Archdeacry led by Ven. Kesho Joseph Kidane, who is also the Vicar in charge of Sagante parish.

Sololo Archdeaconry led by Ven. John Maganjo.

Isiolo Archdeaconry led by Ven. Diid Boru.

Canons (Lay and Clergy): Older men and women who have served the church in various capacities for many years. These canons offer invaluable guidance and wisdom to the leadership, ensuring decisions are rooted in deep experience and spiritual maturity. They play a vital role in maintaining the continuity of tradition and providing counsel to the Bishop, Vicar General, Archdeacons, and other leaders within the Diocese.

Rural Deans Rural Deans support the Archdeacons by overseeing specific parishes within each archdeaconry, ensuring that pastoral and administrative duties are effectively carried out.

Parish Clergy The parish clergy are responsible for the spiritual leadership and pastoral care within their respective parishes. They lead worship services, administer sacraments, and provide guidance and support to their congregations.

Deacons Deacons assist the parish clergy in their duties, often focusing on outreach, pastoral care, and service to the community.

Lay Readers and Evangelists: Lay readers and evangelists play a crucial role in supporting the clergy by leading worship services, preaching, and engaging in evangelistic activities within their communities. They are instrumental in spreading the Gospel and strengthening the faith of the Diocese’s members.

Key Archdeaconries

Marsabit Archdeaconry

   – Comprises St. Peter’s Cathedral, Sagante, Baddasa, Bubisa, Turbi, Kargi, Balesa, Karare and Laisamis parishes.

   – Led by Ven. Kesho Joseph Kidane.

   – Known for its cross-cultural diversity and large youth population.

Sololo Archdeaconry:

   – Includes the parishes of Moyale, Wolda, Anona, Sololo, and Uran.

   – Covers a large and rough terrain inhabited by nomadic tribes, with a significant Christian presence.

   – Ven. John Maganjo leads this archdeaconry.

Isiolo Archdeaconry:

   – Headquartered at Barnabas Church, Isiolo, and covers parishes extending into parts of Meru, Samburu, and North Eastern Kenya.

Includes, Barnabas, Waso, Ngaremara, Lowangila, Archers-post and Daaba (proposed)

   – Known for its mix of urban and rural settings and diverse tribal communities.

   – Led by Ven. Diid Boru.
