ACK Balesa Parish – A Beacon of Hope in the Chalbi Desert

ACK Maikona Parish is a vital outpost of faith in the heart of the Chalbi Desert, located approximately 100 kilometers from Marsabit town. The journey to Maikona is an adventure in itself, taking 4-5 hours through mostly untarmacked roads. Despite the challenges of the harsh environment, the church stands as a symbol of resilience and hope for the local community.

Under the Marsabit Archdeaconry, led by Archdeacon Joseph Kesho, Maikona Parish is shepherded by Rev. Guyo Jarso, who, along with his dedicated team, tirelessly ministers to the people. The parish consists of three sister churches: ACK Oasis of Grace Maikona, ACK Hurri Hills, and ACK Balesa Church. Together, these congregations form a strong Christian presence in a region where the local Gabra community—predominantly pastoralists—navigate a mix of traditional beliefs and Islamic influences.
